Maxton C. McDowell is a proud Randolph County native and lifelong resident. He graduated from Farmer High School in 1968. He received his Bachelor of Arts in accounting from Elon University in 1972.
Maxton began his career as an accountant, then certified public accountant. He also worked as a controller for six years. The controller position gave him valuable experience in a business setting. In 1989, he opened his own accounting practice in Asheboro, Maxton McDowell CPA, where he continues to provide accounting services to Randolph County residents, businesses, governmental agencies and nonprofit organizations.
As a CPA, Maxton has experience with municipal and governmental accounting. He has performed audits for municipalities, colleges, hospitals, airports, foundations and nonprofit organizations.
Maxton has also been involved with the Randolph County planning board. He served as a board member for 18 years and was the chairman for eight of those years. He has a thorough knowledge of county zoning ordinances and how to apply them. This planning board experience also taught him the importance of listening to county residents and carefully considering their interests and concerns.
Maxton is an active member in his community. He has been a part of the Asheboro Rotary Club for 38 years. He was involved with Randolph County’s Red Cross chapter, once serving as board chairman. Multiple county leaders have called upon Maxton to serve as treasurer of their political campaigns, including former sheriff Litchard Hurley.
